180mm F3.5 APO EX DG / HSM Digitally optimized telemacro lens with life-size reproduction ratio - Link (via dpreview)
Sigma 50-500mm f4-6.3 EX DG/HSM lens - Link (via dpreview)
The second one accepts both 1.4X and 2X APO EX Tele-Converters, so the lens can be used as a 1000mm ultra-telephoto zoom lens. Holy cow! Now I just wish Canon would build these in L glass, with IS.

WHen they say "optimized for digital cameras" do they mean for those digital cameras that do not have a full-size sensor? Doesn't the optimization relies on the crop-factor?
If such lens is used on a DSLR with bigger sensors such as 1Ds, what would be the result near the edges?

For Sigma, DG versions have a new coating to reduce ghosts and flares. They are not made for APS-C sized sensors and hence will fit on any EOS AF mount.
Their DC line of lenses are made for the APS-C sized sensor in Canon 10/20D, Digital Rebels, Nikon D70s, etc, and hence will not give a full image on a larger sized sensor found on Canon D1/s.
Sigma 50-500 has an excellent reputation for sharpness and I'm eagerly waiting for test results to see if the DG coating makes a noticible improvement when used on dSLRs. If it is used with a 2x TC it is 1000mm but with a 1.6 crop factor becomes a 1600mm.
