I've looked and not found any relevant thread pertaining to my question...
I'm considering adding this telephoto lens to my camera. Raynox DCR-1540, Pro 1.54x Telephoto Lens
Does anyone use a telephoto lens attachment on their non-DSLR camera that could share some positives/negatives? Thanks. |

For that price it is not worth it in my mind. It doesn't get you that much closer.

Not used any myself, but I gather that the Canon ones are the only ones worth bothering with... good quality at a reasonable price. Everything else is either rubbish, or extortionate. I think the recommended one has a model something like TCON-17? |

You are right about the TCON 17 being considered the best of the bunch among teleconverters, but it's made by Olympus, not Canon. You can get it for about $100 or less.
Did you ever use the Panasonic tele when you were shooting with your FZ10?

Thanks - I'll take a peek at branded. I had generic on the brain for some reason - I guess as long as it works with the camera it doesn't matter what the brand is.

Well, on the Z3 that I'll have in my hands tomorrow (grin), it will take me from 420mm to 650mm (35mm equiv)...and of course if the tool is useful there are other versions like 2.2x, etc...

Well the TCON-17 prices around $93 and is for Olympus. Many caveats as to what model it will work with within the Olympus line...and other brands like Konica-Minolta? Generic still sounds safer? |

I also recommend the TCON-17, I got one last year for my FZ2 but now it in my bag and I still use it with my lenses on my D70 (don't lose any light)

Whether or not it works on your camera primarily depends on the thread size you are going to put it on. If it is close to the same thread size you can use step up rings, or step down rings, to attach it. It will work but you may have some vignetteing. If the difference in thread sizes is great, you will still be able to attach it with rings but the vignetteing may be so severe that you get to use only a small circle in the middle of your image.
Try a google search. When I was in the market I found several pages with valuable info like comparison tests and compatibility charts, etc.

I had an Olympus E-20, fixed lens DSLR. It utilized extension lenses. I had some generic "digital optics" which were okay. But the Olympus ones were of much better quality.
BradP uses a TCON-300 (3x) extension lens on his E-10. The quality is supposed to be pretty top notch for extension lenses. *shrug* |

Ooops ;-)
Olympus then... it's been a while since I followed these things!
I never used the Panasonic converter... the quality was supposed to be fantastic but it cost more than the original camera. |
