within a few days i will be the happy owner of a Apple Mac G5 '20 inch latest version
Bang!!..that was love at first sight..what a fantastic design (i admit im attracted to these things)
i was amazed how usersfriendly this 'beauty' turned out to be
out of the box within 15 minutes, from photoshop to wireless internet, everything was running smooth on the Mac
it comes with a lot of nice features too
but most off all what convinced me..
at the spot i took a look at my portofolio and DP in general
that was smashing..the brilliance..sharpness..contrast..colours..all soo bright and clear (i noticed a lot of imperfections off all kind on my images)
im sure for the future this means i can improve the quality of my images and basically thats my aim and i cant imagine im gonna regret investing all my holiday pay in this 'ivory white dream'
anymore users (or non-users) out there have something to add?

I'd be tempted to make the switch. Already have ipod, and am impressed by how the technology is intuitive. If there's a stopping point, it'd be that Apple is run by a fascist egomaniac, and I generally have the impression that the Apple technology is a lot less democratic than the alternatives, problematic as they might be.

For instance, I'm wondering why the Ipod is sealed the way it is...and my conclusion is that the company just doesn't want anyone else to tinker, innovate and muck with their product. Fair enough, but there's something limiting in that.

Uhhh...egomaniac? Where'd you get that? Less democratic??? You mean like everything just works without need for tinkering is undemocratic?

The other side of that argument is that if something is designed properly, you have less incentive to WANT to get under the hood. That statement of course excludes the hacker type who wants to get under the hood of ANYTHING.

I also think Apples are designed more for people who are focused on getting work done more than the tools they do it with. I see them as less general purpose, and more targeted towards the creative community. That community seems more interested in getting their work done than moving their swapfiles around and integrating drivers. Not to say that Macs aren't usable in almost any scenario - I'm just speaking from a marketing perspective.

I'm waiting for my employer's stock to rise so I can cash in some options and make the same purchase. It's a beautiful machine, and would love to own one.

I only have to add a little word of advice:
make sure you check each entry of yours on a dim windows monitor as well. You'll be surprised at how amazing a photo looks on your monitor, and how no one can really see it during voting...

Other then that - good luck with your new baby :-)
I can understand all about the excitement around the new thing!

Microsoft and Gates could be described in pretty much the same terms.

Congratulations on leaving The Dark Side!!!!!!!!!

I think you will LOVE your new computer. I've been using Macs since 1984....wow...that was a long time ago. To the credit of Apple, I was 4 years old in 1984...and if a 4 year old can figure it out, you shouldn't have ANY problems!

But if you ever do have any issues adjusting to The Switch, let me know and I can try to walk you through any problems!

Congrats again!!!

More like an evil [Apple employees viewpoint] genius [consumers viewpoint]

It took me a while to adjust to the new method of photo organization with iPhoto, but now that I have, I love it!
