I am looking for suggestions.

I have been sorting my picture via a folder system but now am over stretched. My wife is cursing at me because she cannot find anything. What do DPC user use and what do you recommend, I have heard of Iview and Breeze browser, photoshop album . . .

What do people think?

It's kinda pricey but Portfolio 7 is great!
I started using portfolio 6 a while ago and upgraded to 7
and all I can say is, it takes a little bit of work to set depending
on how many pics you currently have, but when done your done you will
be able to find anything that your looking for quickly!

I use PhotoMechanic and a good organized directory structure.

I use ACDSee v7 now. It's really great. But the thing is that really kills you, it's the backlog of pictures. Just dropping in a great photo manager isn't going to catgorize and add keywords to all your existing photos. So to a certain extent, your searching problem will exist for some time until you get everything cataloged. The issue there of course being that once you catalog, you are commiting to a software path unless you relish the idea of re-entering all that info into another program. Your best option I think as far as that goes is as much as possible, insert data into the picture files themselves so that worst case you can have new software extract that info from the images themselves. Even then though it'll only get what's "live" on disk, not offline stuff. What would be really nice is if there was a standard XML exportable format for keeping photo data in, so that you could export an entire database from your app, included offline stuff and then import into a new app. But since there isn't any incentive to do so, in fact there are several strong financial reasons(see locked into software above) for them not to do it, it'll probably never happen.

I use a macintosh computer so I use apple's software called Iphoto but it kind of sucks when you get over 2500 images the programs slows down and crawls sometimes. So there is an awesome program add-on called Iphoto Buddy which you can use multiple Iphoto librarys. With this it runs great. I have checked out Portfolio it ok but alot of work compared to Iphoto.

ThumbsPlus v. 7 made me very happy after having tried them all at one time or another. Good luck. As everyone says, you will still need to put work into the cataloging, but I am glad I did now.
