I'm planning on selling my FZ20 and buying a 300D or 350D XT. I compared the two cameras and the only dramatic difference is the megapixels. 6 MP is quite enough for me so should I just get the 300D? Are there any other factors that make the XT better?

Two things about the 300D that you may not be aware of:

Focus mode is set automatically depending on what shooting mode you choose.

Same thing for exposure mode. You don't have the control.

I believe these two things are now under the photographer's control on the 350D XT.

Just something to check out if these are important factors for you.

It is a higher number and has the letter "X" in its name.

There have been several comparisons on this and other sites. I think that the key update is that focussing and metering modes have been brought much closer to those of the 20D (these were one of the reasons I bought a 20D rather than a 300D - would have been a tougher choice if the 350XT had been available). 8MP is a very useful step up, as well.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy the 350 over the 300 mainly for the lack of noise at ISO1600 and ISO3200, but also for the control over metering.

Although if you're used to the FZ20 (I upgraded from an FZ10), you might want to think about saving up for a Minolta 7D which has stabilisation in the body... all your lenses will then be stabilised such as Tokina 24-200mm (which is not far off the focal lens of the FZ20), 50mm F1.4 or F1.7, all your wide-angles, etc.

in a nutshell the 350 fixes what canon did wrong on the 300
I say get the 350, not that the 300 is a bad camera by any means.
But if you intend use every manual function available on your camera
the 350 is probably the better choice.

just my 2 cents

It's simple....

300 = Rebel

350 = Rebel XT (XT = eXTra features)
