If anyone has some advice, or can help me learn something, please look at this image
and let me know if there's any post-processing technique that can repair the glare
on the front of this motorcycle.

I'd sure appreciate your efforts.

Here is an attempt at it...

It is really difficult to loose that highlight... I am no expert i know there are people who can make a better job at this than me but i tried it out...
How i did it
Selective colors...
Curves.
and a little more selective color on the whites...
I guess that was basicly it...

Thanks. I'll try some of that in just the blown areas to see if it can be used in that way. If so, it can save some of my shots.

Another way is to select the area and copy and paste and then apply in multiply mode. Then adjust the opacity to suit. Then do a general curves adjustment. The multiply layer at 100% is equal to about a whole stop. Never use this in basic editing.

I did not use it just on the blown area but on the hole image.

Shadow/Highlight adjustment (50%/50% Radius 1)
Burn the blown area on the left
Magnify and blur that area to soften up the jagged bits of noise

Next time remember your polarizer

Polarizer may not work on this surface, though. Aorth a try... Anyway, here's a quick fix:

This took literally two minutes from opening the image.

1. Cntrl-alt-tilde (~) to select highlights range
2. Cntrl-J to create a layer from that selection
3. Return to BG layer
4. Repeat 1
5. Cntrl-shift-I to invert selection
6. Cntrl-J to create a layer from the inverted selection

7. Set the first layer (highlights) to linear burn at 100%
8. Set the second layer (shadows) to screen, at 50%

9. Use the magnetic lasso under magnification to select the colored area on the front.
10. Copy the selection
11. Paste the selection, set layer to multiply at 100%

(all this is on autopilot, it's fast when you get used to it)

12. Select at magnification with the magnetic lasso the truncated arch of the burned out logo to the left of the number.
13. Copy, and paste
14. Edit/modify/flip vertically
15. Edit/Modify/rotate and drag it around to laign
16. use arrow keys or mouse to drag the rotated selection down to complete the arc of the logo.

Done. Would work MUCH better on high-resolution original.

Robt.
