I fed my snake, Hobbes, this afternoon. Couldn't help but laugh (and grab my camera) as hunter and hunted stared each other down...

I try to feed Hobbes about once a week... If need be, however, he can go for quite some time with out eating. Snakes are such incredible animals...

Yes, incredible... but I'd get too attached to it's food. :-( If it weren't for that, I'b be all over it.

Do you always use live mice?

Having had a ball python myself, I know how clumsy they can be at times...and a mouse will do anything to keep itself from dying -- especially when the snake gets bigger and you have to move on to bigger food, you start to endanger the well-being of the snake. It might sound rare, but think about it -- one nice claw to the eye, and you snake is going to have problems and you'll be making more than one trip to the vet's to make sure it heals ok...if he's not blind forever.

If yours is refusing frozen mice because they're colder than normal or just don't smell right, at least hold the mouse by the tail and give it a nice smack in the head off the tank before you toss it in -- that way its heart is still beating. Be careful, seriously.

Yeah, I normally use live mice, but he'll eat frozen as well. I plan on moving to exclusivly frozen pretty soon here...

Of course, If I can find mice from the same clever genetics as this one... =]

That is a cool shot. Nice to have a camera hand for it =).
I have a shot similar to it, but on a bit different scale. Makeshift studio setup. Took a while to get both to cooperate:
