Yes like that... I have been using the select tool but have been having a hard time to make a nice selection...
How did you this so fast?.

I used the magic wand with the tolerance set at 10. I then selected the background a bit a at time, using Shift to add to the selection. Once I have my selection, I like to create a layer under my image and fill the selection black (to keep me from having to do it again...)

Anyways, once you have your background selected go to select>midify>contract>1px

Then you can delete your b/g.

On the one I just did, I created a second layer under the first, and applied a bit of gaussian blur to it, the help with the blending...

And that's it... I'm not very good at giving directions, so let me know if I wasn't clear enough... =]

I don't know how discraft did it, but I would have used the magnetic lasso tool - hold down button over the lasso tool until selsction of three tools pops up - choose the one with a magnet picture next to it. Much easier.

When you have made your selection, you can neaten it up in various ways. Either - create a new layer, use the paint bucket to flood the area with a single colour, deselect then paint or erase the colour to creat your desired selection. Then reselect using the magic wand selection tool.

Or - use the free lasso to add or subtract from your selection by holding the Shift key to add, or Alt key to subtract, while making additional selections.

And what are the settings to use?

I tend to use the magnetic lasso at its default setting:

width 10px
Edge Contrast 10px
Frequency 57

Rarely fails me.

You can also click on "edit in quick mask mode" (on the tools toolbar, the righthand rectangle with circle in it towards the bottom), paint over the flower, switch back to standard mode (the lefthand rectangle) and then click delete.

i guess i just don't have the patience for that... and the results seem not to come out fine...
The lasso tool is just anyoing in my opinion... since it gets attached to almost everything i pass... i know how toi use it but it is a little strange.
