Just thought I'd let you all know...
Bought Photoshop CS (as an upgrade from 6) in mid March.
Was really disappointed to find out the new version came on sale only weeks later - would have preferred to have been given option to pre-order for that version. But I figured I'd have to live with it.
Started using Adobe Raw Converter plugin and am learning it in quite a lot of detail as am developing a training course on RAW conversion and basic Photoshop for a new client. I upgraded my ACR version to 2.4 as the previous version didn't support files from the 20D. All hunky dory.
During that development I checked the download site again to note down steps incase clients also needed to update their version of ACR for the training to work and noticed that, in the space of a week, they'd bought out another version of ACR, 3.1. Thinking it would probably make sense for clients to go with latest version if updating anyway, I tried to upgrade my own to 3.1 to check it out.
That's when I discovered that ALREADY, Adobe are creating new versions of Camera Raw that do not work with Photoshop CS but only with CS2. Yet many users will need to upgrade to new versions of Camera Raw in order for Camera Raw to accept RAW files created by new camera models.
After a tip from Gordon I called Adobe Customer Service and (politely) explained the problem - firstly that I was disappointed that I had not been offered the option to pre-order CS2 rather than get CS given the timeframe and secondly that CS was already obsolete for users of their latest version of Camera Raw. This was just at the end of last week.
Today my new (free) copy of Adobe PS CS2 arrived in the post.
Not bad, eh?

I see it pays to be polite...I'll have to start using that tact myself one day :)
Congratulations and enjoy your new software. |

I am always polite when first speaking to customer service reps, especially when it's a complaint issue, because it's not their fault, personally and going in all guns blazing will just get their back up. Being polite and easy to deal with means they are more likely to WANT to help and, believe me, the results one gets from CS reps is often dependent on their personal opinions since many are given quite a lot of leeway to decide how to best handle the issue.
If I end up with someone with the intelligence of a slug I ask, still politely, if there's someone else I can discuss it with.
I only become confrontational if I'm met with rudeness at their end and I tend to go with cold, assertive and logical confrontation rather than screaming loony!
