"Hey chimp, wipe that sh*t-eating grin off your face!"

Got these at the zoo yesterday and had to share. It was pretty funny watching this through the lens. They're not the best focus/exposure etc, but you get the picture. I'm really not a sick individual , but I find humor in the stupidest things!

I put them in my workshop so they are "hidden" from my portfolio.
Chimp

And yes, he ate the WHOLE thing!

I guess you can't make a link to your workshop, I get an invalid request when I click it.

If you go into another collection in Marc's portfolio, then replace the last 4 numbers in your browser's address bar with '7621' then you will access the images.

urgh! :)

Same here. But do we really want to see a monkey eating poop?

Hmmmm.......

Yes! Yes we do!

And now that I have seen it, I am glad it was only a photo. I think if I was at the zoo to witness this I would have lost it right then and there.

Ugh. Ack. Now that was just sick (but you did warn us).

It happens because it gives them nutrients that may otherwise be lacking. It is an aberrant behavior that is very common among captive chimps and rarely observed in the wild. Guinea pigs and other animals do it also. In fact if your guinea pig is sick giving it the pellet of a healthy pig can be good for it.

It is an action that gets the most 'ewwwwwwwwwwwws' and is a question I get asked quite a lot. 'Why do they do that? ewww' The only thing I hear more is 'That looks like my (insert unpopular family member here)'.

Wow, thanks for the info, you know your animals. I figured there had to be a reasonable explanation to it, as they are extremely intelligent. I think I'd be malnourished though if I were stuck in a cage and that was my only alternative.

Coincidentally, my six year old daughter is doing a presentation for her first grade class today about Reducing, Reusing, and Recycling.

Blech
