A quick try just using layers and adjustments. What do you think?

I think that your version is more realistic and believable.

I am normally quite the purist and would applaud that, but at the moment I am enjoying that magical, mystical over-the-top feel of the glow action.

Not sure if I'd even keep any of them, but I'm having fun playing with it.

You mean a over the top glow like this one I did yesterday?

Yeah, sort of like that that. You "overcooked" the colors well enough, now make the whole thing a bit softer and you're there.
Sometimes it is fun to step away from realism, isn't it?

Now I'll go to bed and try to have fuzzy, soft focused, technicolor dreams :-)
