I installed PS-CS onto my iBOOK and after i spend ages getting my picture to an acceptable standard then save for web the colours become washed out and it looks considerably worse than the picture i just edited. I know this has to be a setting in colour set up but Im not sure of the correct setting to use can someone please advise. THANX VERY MUCHOS.
Example.. took this with my new Sigma 105mmEX Jackro err i mean Macro and this is very weak compared to the original
PS-Is this a hornet?....lol |

Hey Marac. Nice new lens, man.
There are some things you can do on your Mac to lessen this effect, if you're not doing them already. First, go to your menus and select View > Setup > Monitor RGB. You should leave it there all the time when editing photos, unless you have a specific reason to switch it.
Also, be sure that your working space (Photoshop > Color Settings) is set to to sRGB when you're editing an image to post online. You can also select Web Graphics Default under the Settings pulldown menu. That will give you a better idea what the shot will look like when you Save for Web.
However, even after doing all this, sometimes images look a little washed out when you use Save for Web. When that happens, I usually just use Curves to darken it a bit and then try Save for Web again. I'm not sure if there's a good way to avoid this problem altogether. If there is, I'd love to find out how.

One more thing....don't know if you're using layers or not...but if you ARE, you HAVE to flatten them before saving the final pic, otherwise the layers don't save right and your pic will not look the same. The reason is that if you have layers, it wants to save itself as a psd. If you CHOOSE to save it as jpg instead then it forces a Save As Copy...and again, the layers don't show up right.
So that could be part of the issue if you're using layers at all. |

Thanx lady I am not using layers though for these shots just a simple crop and clean resize and SFW
Philip the settings you suggested are better but still not right, I was asked if i wished to convert to the working space or leave the embedded format (sRGB1998) so i left it gonna try it using convert to working space and ill post this same pic again

I think you mean that you left it in AdobeRGB (1998). If you edit the image in that working space, then it will look very different when you Save for Web. When it asks if you want to convert to the working space, which should be sRGB if you've set it that way, then go ahead and convert it. If you do your editing in the sRGB working space, then when you Save for Web, it will look pretty much the same. It is possible that the colors will be a bit washed out, but it won't be too bad. Good luck!
