I recieved 32 comments in my Dreams submission.
For the most part, I recieved some good comments. But there were those few that were infringing, or just crazy.
So here are those replies to those people.
1) The big red thing in the right hand of the picture is called a "house", still under construction.
2) The light in the upper right part of the pix is called the "moon".
3) Yes, (thank you for the comment), I was pursueing the juxdopositioning of all three lights, (flashlight, backlight, moon).
4) NO!!, I never was interested in cloning out the flashlight, or the moon. (refer to #3) It would of gave me a differant look, and feel.
5)NO!!!!, As intriquing as it sounds, I never was interested in having my human subject turn and run through frame with an actual burning torch.
6) NO!!!!, if I wanted this in a LATE NIGHT theme I would of entered it, as it is, this pix was telling a story, and the DREAM theme was where it belonged.
7) NO, this was not taken in Alaska with the midnight sun.
8) No, I did not feel the power lines were distracting at all, especially since they were running through the tree and being camoflagged (spelling), however, I do agree that they were not needed.
For those that gave me actual good critiques, I ran with what you said and made additional edits. I think it made the pix stronger. Thanks.

[[[I am sure the owner's of the red house would strongly disagree with you and state vehemently that indeed said power lines are necessary and quite needed!]]]
;)
But it also would have made a good entry in the "night" challenge as well. ;;) |

this is my final edit, and how I originally wanted to approach my submission. However, the advanced rules hindered my attempt.

SJ - that is quite clearly a silhouette challenge theme - how prescient of you!
The red house and power lines are slight distractions from the clarity of the image (which I love). In your edited version, the power lines are not perfectly reomoved (I don't need to tell you, but clone and healing tools might improve). I would seriously consider losing the red house, which does show up on my (non-calibrated) lcd monitor and does not add anything to the photo, and does not "belong", in my dream anyway.
You have fixed the lack of clarity on the moon with a great moonshot. There is something just slightly artificial about that that I cannot put my finger on. It is quite high contrast - maybe that - or the sharpness in the rest of the picture is not repeated in the moon. I am sure that you have done so, but will mention anyway, that these edits would be significantly enhanced if done in full resolution before being reduced for DPC. With the added advantage of giving you a good high res image that seems, to me at least, reasonably unusual or unique, and probably quite saleable (if you are willing to prostitute your art in that fashion).

I think that's a lot of explanation for not a lot of necessity...gave you a 5 |

You must remember that people are looking and voting on your photo without any sort of explanation given. They have no information except for a title. Any comment given should be well received IMO. We are all here to help and to learn.

I liked the photograph and scored it well. You edit was what I was wanting to see to bump up score. But I knew you could not do that and stay within the rules. With that said, this is how I would of loved to have seen the picture. Maybe not what you were going for but I think it fits the mood well. Hope you didn't mind me doing a quick edit on your edit. Any comments?

Like I said, I ran with the critiques I considered helped.
Legalbeagle= again, you are not going to pull me into any of your debate traps, think what you want. It would be nice if you were less a lawyer, and more a laymen.
Fotoshootme= thanks for the high score
rex= this is the whole approach to this thread.
sdw65= no I don't mind. I like the moon.

hey - no debate required or sought-after. Merely trying to be helpful. I like SDW65's version, but prefer the flashlight pre-edit (and it makes more sense of the light pattern on the ground) and I like the clear light-fringe around the tree and man. Nice image, as I have said twice before, whichever direction you choose.

If I understand this correctly, you take a beautiful picture that gets a great score, a bunch of people take the time and effort to give you comments, and then you post this thread making fun of several of those people and calling what they said "crazy" or "infringing," whatever that means in this context.
This was a really nice picture that I rated very highly, but I think this thread is out of line. If you don't agree with every comment that you receive, the least you can do is appreciate the people who took the time to write them.
But to end on a positive note, I'll say it again - that's a seriously excellent photo.

Meeybee it's the tone, the CAPS and all the '!!!' that makes it seem like your complaining? It's a good reminder that this is the big WWW and we can't see each others expressions.
I know it can be very frustrating when people don't understand your shot, or see things that aren't there and so on.
If you like it, understand it, don't worry about it.
Love your art. |
