Nooooooooooo my 256mb CF card appears to have died on me. It gets half way through the card and then starts producing writre errors and won't let me put anything on the card afeter it.

Even when transferring stuff onto it via a USB Card reader, it freezes halfway. sob

Its the biggest card I've got, so I guess I've got to buy a new one now, what makes it worse is that its a friends wedding this weekend so I'll have to buy one from the high street rather than wait for a better priced one to arrive from the internet......

If it's within warranty, contact the manufacturer.

If you have a Sam's Club nearby and are a member, they carry CF cards and they are resonably priced.

What kind of CF card is it? If its a Lexar 80X they come with a lifetime warranty.

I doooooooooon't believe it.

I've just dug out my recepit, I bought it in April last year, so it is JUST over a year old, so its not under warranty.

So it's not a Lexar?

no, it was a cheapo generic brand.

I'm looking online now, lifetime guarantee would be nice otherwise I'll go for a sandisck which seems to have 5 years

I don't think the prices of the 512MB online vs. say Best Buy would be that big of a difference. If you get into the 1 GB and larger than you may see a savings, but otherwise you're probably ok buying retail for the smaller sizes.

In an emergency, many large supermarkets (e.g. Safeway) carry 32mb cards for $10. Larger variety stores (e.g. Longs, Walgreens) with camera departments undoubtedly have larger cards as well.

By the time your figure in shipping time and cost -- and the hassle of customer service if there's a problem -- paying $10-15 more to buy locally is often a bargain, as well as doing your part to help the local economy and keep your neighbors employed.

hmm I reckon I can borrow 2x256s for the weekend so I can afford to wait and buy a new 512 on t'internet.

I suppose you already tried to re-format the dead card, both in the camera and on your computer.
