Good timing was the key to my new lens, I arrived at the shop just as the newer lenses were being put up on the shelf and the older ones were being re-boxed and ready for sending back to Sigma. They do this once a year I believe.

I shouted out "HOLD UP MATE" just as the manager was putting the Sigma 105mm Macro into death row. "I'll have that" I said, it was the EX version (not DG) but brand spanking new just shelf life and he reduced it from $500(approx) to $150(approx). Have to wait until tomorrow to test it fully but some reviews i have just read say its a very sharp lens indeed.

Just wanted to share that with you.

So so so so so disappointed with this thread...

When you said this, I thought you actually got a lens for singing. I was like "that's so cool"....

Well I'm not impressed, a range of lenses going so cheap and you did not think to buy them all and send me a few - pah!

;)

Since lenses do not get stale or have an expiration date, why were they sending them back?
And if the retail is $500 and he sold it for $150..that is a lot of markup.

Sigma lenses tend to be marked up more than say Canon or Nikon and therefore the stores are more willing to deal on then.

I think that the main companies send display lenses to the shops and kind of RIGHT OFF the cost of those lenses as kind of advertising, then the shop think they can NEVER sell them to customers as NEW so they end up sending them back to the maker, some funny things happen here in Japan with regard to shops that only sell NEW gear, the first time I ever bought something off the shelf the guy couldnt believe I wanted it because it had been sitting there for a year, he said he could not gaurentee it so therefor it becomes JUNK. I LOVE IT, Ill have this kind of 'junk' all day thank you very much.

The secondhand market is starting to pick up here now so its harder to find a bargain in camera gear at those shops but the NEW ONLY shops are my new target from now on, Ill go hunting for an old 12-24 Nikkor, LMAO wish me luck.

I guess those DG versions are finally starting to come out. There are DG versions of the Sigma 50-500 aka Bigma, that are starting to come out as well.
