What is the acceptable rule about responding to comments made on challenge entries? Should we wait until after the voting period, or respond during exposing who the owner of the picture is?

I ask because I would like to thank the people who took the time to leave me helpful comments.

Wait for the Challenge to finish. Anonymity is an important aspect of the voting.

I agree with the official policy.

However, that being said, I respond to comments during the challenge anyway. There are three reasons:

1-Voting is already anonymously completed before a comment is made.
2-I won't remember after the challenge.
3-I won't care after the challenge.

I expect that voters are strong enough in their conviction that they will not change their vote. Changing it would be wrong. And I seriouisly doubt anyone knows or cares who I am anyway.

Angry, defensive pms are definitely not a good idea. Sheesh, no more please!
Also, leaving a negative comment on one of the commenter's portfolio photos just to be petty is out as well please.

Actually, I almost responded to a positive comment this morning. I don't think there is an official RULE on responding to comments (another SC should pounce on me if there is), but anonymity is held sacred by many here. There are some members who will go back and lower their vote in response to ANY PM during the voting phase, so it's probably best to wait if you can.

I've seen some users clearly express their opinion with regards to PMs during the challenge in their Biography.
Respect this when you make your decision. I will not change my vote upon receiving a PM, even if it opens my eyes and I see "the light" after reading the PM.
When I read Shannon's note on reducing the vote upon receiving a PM along with the use of words such as "sacred", I immediately thought of a Spanish Inquisition, and a Monthy Python flavor of it I may add.
Be scared, or be scarred.

There's an official POLICY with regards to this??????

Could someone post it or link to it?

There isn't one. Each person needs to decide for themselves whether they want to respond or not. I ignore PMs during the challenge, especially rude ones though I haven't got any in a long while. Others I wait until the challenge is over and add my own comment to the image if questions were raised either via PM or otherwise.
