I'm off to the gardens, I have trouble shooting deep red. Any ideals?

Turn contrast and saturation to minimum, add back in PS with curves.

Not reducing saturation is usually what causes people to go wrong with reds...
I forget exactly how most cameras meter, it's either for the overal luminescence, or one of the colour channels (presumably green)... but it doesn't take into account the exposure of each individual colour channel. Therefore, if there are deep reds in a shot, and you look at the historgram for the red channel, you'll see it goes off the scale. Reducing contrast and saturation settings in-camera help to keep the highlight detail, but also try underexposing a tad (but not too much!) to keep the detail in your reds.

Or, for just the red, add back using color painting in a 50% greyscale overlay layer.

Well try a few things today, got it closer than I ever have. At least it does not look like its bleeding to death. I do try to get as close to what I see. I'm not real great at photo shop, have learn few things. Enough to get by. This is a no edit photo. Reds always give me fits, so thats what I praticed on today.
