On a shot I was going to enter I noticed terrible banding of colors in the sky after uploading it. On my system the sky looked normal, but the posted picture was full of colored bands across the sky. I have noticed it on a few other photos here, but others seem not to see it. Any idea what is going on.

Bands as in very thin horizontal lines, or bands as in color bands? |

It is probably a result of the JPEG compression needed to get the file under the 150k limit.
The other possibility is that your monitor is set for fewer than "millions of colors" (aka 24-bit color) but the effect is not noticable except in smooth gradients. |

Color bands, best way I can describe them is the same type of bands that appeared in photos taken by the first mars rover of martian sunsets, instead of a smooth transition of colors in gradient, there were bands of colors instead, each close in color to the previous, but getting darker across the sky portion of the picture.
Bingo, it was settings. Switched to 32 bit and bands disappeared.

I like that one. It reminds me of this:
Nietzsche wrote: "God is dead. -Nietzsche"
Well, someone scribbled one Nietzsche's grave:
"Nietzsche is dead. -God"
