Do anyone find their IS lens making a grinding noise when attempting to focus? Is this normal? |

When focusing? no. A grinding noise? Well, occasionally a gentle "rattle" if the IS bumps the stops, mostly when the IS is first invoked.
Which lens? |

75-300 canon
Constant grinding noise or a small small fan blowing

The IS on my 75-300 is very quiet. The grinding doesn't sound right.

Lots of people hear the grinding. Some lenses (specific copies as opposed to a model) seem to be that way.

I've never heard this, so I can't comment intelligently on it.
Does the noise cease if the IS function is turned off? |

Well, for what it is worth I just feel something is not right with this lens. bhphoto has agreed to exchange the lens. I hate to do so but I think I am going to send it back for the exchange.

Found this review here
This would be just another a mediocre 75-300 lens without Image Stabilization (IS). ... The IS mechanism in this lens emits a soft "grinding" noise, kind of like a muffled electric shaver. IS in my EF 28-135 IS USM is nearly inaudible.
