A slightly different pool of voters, due to the random presentation of photos for voting, and that not everyone votes on every photo.

Although, I usually prefer the "traditional" 3:2 crop.

cows are awesome.

And we found it more annoying the second time...

The top black is much more flattering in my eyes! Hehehe!

Nikon Vs. Canon. The winner is?

What is amazing (IMO) is that both of these photos had received more comments individually than all of my challenge entries combined!

i like the fact that they both got 10s

I'm guessing it's a demonstration on the difference a title makes.

Which would be .2

all I see is a white box... maybe im color blind?

The part that I can't believe is that the scores are all through the range -- who could possibly rationalize themselves into giving this a 6? I mean, really, how could this be anything but a binary decision: a 1 or a 10. Love it or hate it. And, don't even get me started on the "I don't give Ones" camp...

If someone opened one of these and got a big laugh out of it, they could truly say that they "enjoyed" the photo and score it accordingly.

Why does everyone feel the need to make others rationalize their votes ...?

The edge in the first "photo" was probably the Title. "Cow in a field" is more interesting then the other title, so that probably gave you the addition .2 in that one.

Random Voters and maybe the aspect ratio??? hehe
05/11/2005 01:34:58 AM · #17
I think the titles say it all. A field with a cow is more interesting than Canberra at night time :))

Who said that the first picture is better? It just got higher score on DPC.

You know what cracks me up is that we are discussing a 0.2 difference, which when rounded off would be 0 -- the SAME SCORE!

When I saw the first shot it made me feel rather happy but when I saw the second shot, I realized I couldn't see a damn thing and spilled my beer all over my desk inadvertently hitting the 9 instead of the 10. Sorry dude. ;-)

I actually remember both of these, and I found the second one to have just teenie-weenie bit more texture and contrast. Hey dude, I am however inpressed with the scores as they are both more than twice what I scored them. :) Best of luck with your next entry.

Neither or them are as good as this one . In fact I'd suggest they border on the blatant ripoffs.

I think the quality of the black toning in the latter photo is summed up by the fact that it didn't actually finish last.

In fact, if you look carefully, some idiot has added it as a favourite.

As for "blantant ripoffs" - I believe none entered in a challenge can be preceded by ClubJuggle's version titled No submission because cameras steal souls and dated Nov 3, 2002 and picked as a fav of mine because of the title and for the inevitability of this thread -

Another that is of interest in this genre include the dpc masterpiece by Gabriel Competition dated Sep 8, 2004 -

Also another, distinguished as the highest Brown Ribbon - by hann, named My Hand - dated Oct, 14 2002 -

The cow title made me laugh, and I could see no flaw in the photograph. Thus I scored it a perfect 10.

The second one I found uninteresting, and confusing...what/where is Canberra. I just could not see the point the artist was trying to get across. Thus I scored it as a 1.

Hey hey, now, there are a few australians here. Don't go saying you have no idea what/where Canberra is...
