Continuing through my archive of pictures from Hungary, I came across this picture which has been a favorite of most of my friends and family.
This is a memorial to all those Hungarians who died during the 1956 Revolution against the USSR. The sun was setting and I thought that I could get a powerful picture with the sun coming through the cut-out hole where the Communist symbol formerly occupied. I really like this shot, but I need some help fixing the exposure. The camera was auto-focused/metered while pointing straight at the sun so everything else came out dark.
Below is my attempt at fixing the picture by adjusting levels, upping the contrast, decreasing brightness, and increasing the saturation of red, green, blue and cyan.
As you can see, I pretty much blew out the sky and the colors, while brighter, just don't look good.
Any help would be much appreciated since I hope to eventually make a framed print of this.
