For me, there's not enough negative space. As it is the tulip is pretty much in the middle.

I just think the black to the right might be a bit much...

the pix is nice, but to balance the black you need white. I see a speck of white on the bottom right portion of the tulip, but frankly, the whites need work.

I think the negative space is a real plus here, it really adds to the whole artwork, in my opinion vivid colors benifit greatly from larger negative space and this is a great example.

I'm viewing this image via my laptop, but there seems to be a fait amount of noise

Bad congruence of tip of tulip bulb with top line of cloth in BG. Need to work on that. Too much BG showing on left, needs to be tighter there. Black's good. I see no need for white at all.

Robt.

I agree with bear_music in the tip of bulb with top of line. The blend of vibrant background, sharp foreground, and abstract crop makes it a successful picture. But to move beyond successful to memorable is always the task. To me the most intriguing aspect is the bulb and blackness.

yeah I can see what you guys are saying. thanks

of course I am going to disagree with bear_music.

if your bg was pure black, then the white could be left out. in this case you added a color fabric, alongside your black. this without your white element makes the pix look flat.

take these opinions for what they are. everyone has one. find your style, your niche, and become comfortable with your equipment. find yourself a mentor, alive or dead, and try to embrace something you like, and the rest will follow.

what do I think?? I think you should reshoot it..why did you choose that background with the flower? just wondering??

It was just a tulip I bought for 50 cents that is sitting on our deck. the background is just part of a chair behind the flower. I was just taking the picture to show my mom its progress.

S J thanks for the advice
