I am still in learning process (like everyone else is). Can we take printouts of images on the web for our own reference? |

It's commonly done, but technically you don't have permission to do this and many shooters (if not most) in DPC would object.

Not exactly sure about your question. Are you asking if you could take a print of a photo you found on the net ( which is not yours )?

Yes. Exactly. For a future quick reference. |

As Robert said, its very common but technically not legal. And its not only about print, if you download an image and use it for your desktop/background that may be violating some copyright as well. |

See the notice at the bottom of each page of the dpc site. You will find sililiar language at almost every photography site.
"All digital photo copyrights belong to the photographers and may not be used without permission."

There is a gray area here, where a copy/print/screenshot of an image or page here can be used for personal/educational purposes -- this is an educational site.
I'm sure many people have taken a screenshot of DPC when their photo had a particularly high score. We frequently download photos posted for suggested editing ideas. Way back when I first signed up I "printed" my voting page and the challenge results to Adobe Acrobat documents, so I could compare (offline) how my votes compared with the final results.
IMO, all of these are educational "fair use" within the US Copyright act.
Don't make prints for your friends or to sell.
Don't post the images on the internet.
Do learn by careful study of selected images.
Use common sense and you should be OK ... |
