hey everyone,
i was wondering if any of you know of non-canon, non-sigma wide lenses (<18mm). I am trying to get a feel for what's out there and I would like to hear about lenses I haven't come across yet. My interests are wide open (no pun intended): prime or zoom, rectilinear or fisheye.

| The Tokina 12-24 is getting a lot of good reviews and nicely priced against Canon/Nikon/Sigma too. |

I'd get the MC Zenitar 16mm f2.8 fisheye. You can get one online with a Canon mount for about $140.

From cheapest to most expensive:
Zenitar 16mm-rectilinear fisheye about $140
Peleng 8mm fisheye about $180
Tamron 17-35mm, about $460
Tokina 12-24 about $500
Tamron 11-18 about $560
I'd recommend either the Peleng or Zenitar, if you don't mind primes with manual focus or Tokina if you want autofoucs and a zoom.
BTW, why do you want to shoot ultrawides at wide aperatures?

i am impressed with the quickness of the responses... I am checking into the zenitar, i am on a budget as a student.
The Kiev Camera online store seems a bit sketchy -- does anyone have experience with them?

I bought mine off of eBay and it was delivered to me from Kiev in a brown paper package tied with twine. I wasn't worried about it and it came just as expected.

No idea how these perform, but they are dirt cheap (£27 = $50):

Thoe are adapters you screw onto your own lens via the filter threads. I heard they don't work well at all.

This would be for a P&S/prosumer camera (not intended for DSLR). Also, the no-name/non-mainstream brand lenses tend to be very poor quality.
