| Good choice for my primary lens? |

| The lens is very sharp and I am happy with it. The AF motor is terrible though, you will have a tough time catching anything that is moving quickly. I'm not sure I would recommend it for a primary lens if it is the only one that you will have, but I would definately recommend it as a macro lens and portriat lens |

its an excelent lens, great quality and sharp images. as md8speed said the AF is on the slow side, but it is still a wonderfull lens

Primary lens, as in the one you plan to use the most? No, a good zoom would be better, or a shorter prime like a 35mm f2.
Unless all you want to do is macros. |

Well it's mainly for Macros, but I just read it's also great for portraits and such so I finally bit the bullet and bought one.

| If you wouldn't mind, post up some images that used the lens. I'm looking to buy a 100mm macro lens sometime in the next two weeks, and would appreciate some opinions on the sigma, as well as the canon incarnation. Thanks. |

Yeah, saw those already. How about some more...I ain't no ribbon winner, and I doubt I'll be one. So I'm looking for "middle achieving" samples that I can possibly shoot too.
Just kidding. I'm wanting a larger body of samples, that's all.

he uses that lens with a 50mm lens reversed attached to it with a coupling ring to get a 2:1 ratio

I think that the Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM would be a much better choice. It's only about $50 more and is rated slightly better in image quality and "very fast" focusing vs. "slow" for the Sigma.
