So there was this commercial on the other day that I just had to laugh at. It was for Ambien -- a sleeping pill. At the end, they said you may have side effects such as drowsiness, sleepiness, fatigue, and feeling 'drugged' among other things... Well, isn't that what a sleeping pill should do?

This coming from 'box boy'!

So when is the next GTG? I got new toys...a flash, and a lens due on monday!

The Geico commercials are the ones that irritate me the most, followed by Ditech and Vonage. I am thinking of trying Vonage though. The other 2 will never see a dime of my money.

Actually, not to be a spoilsport, but NO. It's easy as hell to design a pill that knocks people out and turns 'em into zombies. The holy grail of sleeping pill science is a pillt hat puts you down into depp sleep and then lets you wake up alert and refreshed after 8 hours of sleep. This is what the consumer wants, and he's pissed off if he doesn't get something approximating it. Thus the "side effects" designation, simple self-protection.

Still, I have to admit, that's funny stuff. It DOES sound ridiculous doesn't it. And one of the Viagra/Cialis/wahetever commercials actually prints on the screen "If your (censored) lasts longer than 4 hours, seek medical help." How many guys YOU know are gonna seek help that soon for (censored) that won't quit?

Return to your regularly scheduled programming now, sorry for the risqué side trip.

Robt.

Oddly enough the side effect of some sleeping pills is sleeplessness.

As someone who has had issues with sleep most of his life the prospect of feeling fatigued, drugged, and drowsy without actually falling asleep is a special type of hell all to itself.

My little one 14 months loves the music to the vonage and that car commercial where they change the paint colors... Or the one where dude is sitting in a recliner changing the cars... Everytime even if he is in another room (he must have good ears.) he will stretch his neck around to see those commercials... Geez what a way to get the consumers.. use a baby...

As I sit here at 3:30 in the morning waiting for my Ambien to kick in (it doesn't take long at all) I see this thread and just have to comment. On the warning pamphlet they give you with this med, it says to take the pill then get in bed. Don't mess around. Do it. The first time I took it, I sat watching TV for a bit, to see what it would do. Finally my hubby suggests laying down and see if that helps...I stood up and fell right to the floor. Hubby had to carry me to bed.
What they don't mention in the pamphlet is halucinating, or blabering incoherently in the moments before falling asleep. I have had entire conversations with people in my bedroom that don't even exist.
I wake up in the morning (which is like noon for me usually) and feel really good, but have heard people who wake up and are still sleepy. That's probably the reason for the warning label. Yeah, I found it funny too.
Actually, on the bottle it says "may cause daytime drowsiness" and "do not take with alcohol" Trust me...take that advice. lol
