Yes, I followed the tutorial and STILL can not get my photo saved at max size... when I get the pixels at 640... my file size is always too big. I made my resolution 72 instead of 180 and it's STILL too big.
I always thought myself to be good with photoshop but I am just EXTREMELY annoyed right now.
Please help! |

Are you saving "for the web"?
It's RGB? and jpeg?

Annee,
The resolution setting has NO effect when you are saving a jpg file. For a given image, the file size depends only on the pixel size and the quality setting.
I just saved a 640 x 466 pixel image using the "Save for Web" function in Photoshop CS. It is set to save in "JPEG" format and there is a window for setting the "Quality." If I set the quality to 100, the file size is 255K - well above our limit. But if I set the quality to 15, the file size is only 19K. For this image, the 19K version looks pretty good. If I look closely, I can begin to see some compression artifacts. I actually used a quality setting of 60 for the image, giving a file size of 62K.
I suspect that your trouble is that you have not found the quality setting.
Peace, Dan |

Hi Annee,
As Justine said, make sure you're using "save for web" , and that it is in jpeg. Then did you go up to the little "optimize" arrow? Click on that, then from the drop down choose optimize to file size, then put in about 148k, it should do it's thing and find the best quality up to that size, then hit ok. Also, make sure your size is to the 640 before you start trying to save.
