Does anybody in the vast community here ever heard of famous colorblind photographer. Could be the photographer's "Did you know Beethoven was deaf ?"
Or any other artist/performer that had any form of handicap challenging a direct aspect of their work?
I saw a show about a female dancer in wheel chair! I'm sure there must be colorblind photographers out there. Hey! Maybe I'm not the only one here!
Let me know!

Yeah, but I don't want to limit myself to that. Because I do see colors, just not all of them.
The way it is for me, imagine seing the chromatic star (not sure about the term, french translation, sorry) but some secondary colors are perceived by it's strongest color. Ex: Purple will be seen either blue or red. I only see well balanced green, and orange. But purple is the one I have the most trouble with. |

just shoot the photos and have someone else do your color correction, cause thats the only place I could see a hinderence. Or you could get a pantone book with colors marked in percentages (make sure you get one with the color names too, i think they are interior design pantone books) and then spot color to find out the color. Its kind of a mathmatical approach to correction. They are a little pricy though. Or you could shoot to your liking and say screw it to the rest of us full spectrum seeing people.
I love b&W and I cant wait to get back into school and get into the darkroom again..
Just think of it this way: you see life in a completely different spectrum

Well, I'm not famous or anything, yet :-) but I have a Red Green deficiancy.
I work as an Animator-Lighter-Texture artist and have no problems whatsoever. The trick is to see clour as "normal" people see them. I tend to go a bit heavy on the reds, If I'm not carefull, I'll overcompensate with blue.
I'm not worried by it at all. I differentiate between more greens than most people can, and see the most brilliant sunsets ;-) |

I like all the color photos in your profile. Spingtime on the farm, and lunchtime have a very nice effect to them. You saturate the blue and under saturate the reds in lunchtime, like the effect though. I dont quite know what you did with Springtime, but it is interesting. I dont like real world color anyways...

The farm got a lot comments about the pink barn... I didn't know about it, I used the burn too... I don't know how the pink was inserted. That's another color I have a hard time with. |

I thought it was cool, it added a focal point, drew your eyes down the field to the barn. Most photographers here are realists and journalistic photographers. Most didnt understand the concept of surrealism, or much of any modernist styles (minus minimalism, but that is pretty easy to understand)

I worked as an e-business coordinator for a car auction company. I left that place a few months ago, some changes in the structure kinda put me back where I had started 4 years ago...
Right now I'm vacation looking for work. I'm trying to get the most skills in photography. I allready have some contracts. I was hired to shoot a swimsuit/lingerie show and the owner of the erotic boutique that organises the show also asked me to shoot the store for their web site. Life is cool... |

That's okay... No I was processing sales, printing contracts, making charts, customer service, translation, tranport dispatcher... Then my boss lost most of her responsibility, took mines and I was stuck doing data entry. Sorry but... Fuck that!
Edit: Wow! That felt good!

This photographer and this photographer are both colour-blind. Maybe not universally famous, but a good start ...

Really? Wow! That's encouraging. They're both amazing! How do you know about this? Is there an existing thread I could look up? |

Sorry grandmarginal. I work freelance doing mostly TV and DVD documentaries and TV ads.
Interestingly, both those photographers mentiononed, as well as meself, use a Sony F828 primarily. Coicidence?

What do you think? Do you know of a special feature on that camera that helps? |

I was actually wondering a few weeks ago if anybody ever became colour blind during life. That is, one day they suddenly couldn't see certain colours they could see properly before. |

I'm sure there are some cases. Me I was like that from birth so... I'll tell what tough, we've only found out when I was like 10. At school, my teachers and the kids with me would comment on my weird colors. I had to hide that problem for a long time, untill I read about the condition. I just tought I was too dumb to learn colors...
I remember at first, I had Laurentian color pencils, and the colors were written on them, so I could use them knowing that tree leaves we're green for example ... Then my mom bought me a box of prismacolor pencils, like 50 unidentified pencils... That was a nightmare !

Not conciously no. The f828 filter array has an extra colour though. Instead of the normal RGBG it is RGBE (Emerald) //www.dpreview.com/reviews/sonydscf828/
That's not why I bought it though.. |

We learn to interpret the numbers (CMYK values) in Photoshop's Info window ... there's (fortunately) a gap between theory and practice.
A lot of my photos end up with a pinkish (or occasionally greenish) cast or tone, which I just don't notice. When I edit, I usually concentrate on managing tonal values, and don't worry too much about specific colors unless there's a "memory color" -- like the red of a Campbell soup can -- with which everyone is familiar.
But I also like B&W and Duotones, and I like making "weird" colors using the Curves adjustment -- check out this gallery at pBase for some examples of that, and of how the Curves control affects the photo. |
