I have recently bought a Canon S1 IS. But not sure, if it has a Macro mode? or manual focussing??

macro mode, definately. zoom all the way out and get in close. you don't have to switch anything over.

manual focussing is available, but not great at all. There's a toggle button on the side of the extrudy lens bit and then you use the arrows on the back of the camera. I don't have my S1 with me to double check, but that's what I recall.
