That would work. I just threw out an idea, I'm not even sure I'll be there yet. I want to go, I just don't know what will be going on. It's the weekend after "someone's birthday and we might take a trip or something...
Who is all planning on going?

I can shoot all day, but I use a cane and will need to skip the long hikes.
But don't let me stop you if you want to go on a long hike. I can find something else to do.
So for sure I'm planning on being there for the sunset shoot. And I'll be available for other shoots that don't require a lot of hiking.

I have MS, which does slow me down a bit. I would not be up for a long hike, but I am sure there are other interesting things for us to shoot.

I've been thinking about going away for a few days somewhere within driving distance and Sedona *might* fit. How far is it from the LA area? I figure from LA to Phoenix it's roughly 5 hours, correct? Then how far to Sedona from there? My only requirement for my next vacation is that it be within one day of driving (about 6 hours).

Sedona is roughly an hour north of Phoenix.

Only an hour north? Maybe I might join you, Arie, and take a week off from work! :)

Wow, so I spent an hour on the phone with Dell trying to order a laptop, but got disconnected, then I tried back but couldn't reach my reps (who promised me they could overnight the laptop to me during my first two days in Sedona). Well, they've now gone home and the new ship date is May 11th... not gonna work. I will have filled all my CF cards by then!
Damn! Well, thank heavens for Walgreens!!! $2.99 per CD. I guess that will have to do!

Well I'm getting ready to go over to Sedona. Looking forward to meeting you folks next Saturday.
I am counting on meeting for the sunset shoot of Cathedral Rock from Crescent Moon Park area next Saturday.
If you organize a shoot earlier on Saturday please post the details here and I will try to join you.
No laptop but my sister who lives near there and will let me check in. I will try to get my hands on the computer Thursday or Friday.

Since I will be there for the whole week before the Saturday sunset meet up I will scout the area for a good place to car pool from and post it on Thursday or Friday.
For meet ups earlier on Saturday you folks will need to work out the details and post them here hopefully before Thursday.

Well as usual my weekend was planned without my consent or knowledge. I have 2 birthday parties to attend on this date 3 hours apart. I guess I will try for the next GTG. |

It's hard to plan since I don't know the area. I am going to say:
Saturday, May 7th
Time: 4pm to 7pm
Meeting Spot: Somewhere where we can drive into the park together and take photos of Cathedral Rock. Anyone know a meeting spot right around there?

Arielle... I am tentatively planning to go to Sedona on Saturday for the day with another new member of DPC. Taking pictures of Cathedral at Red Rock at sunset is a great idea and a major photo op for Sedona. I will likely drive up for the whole day so we might meet earlier if you want. I will call the number you left to confirm a GTG. Should be a fun.
I am hoping that Tina (tfaust) and Daryl (louddog) as well as others will be able to go too.

We're out. Too much going on to break away for a day.
There is an excellent resturant called "Troya's" on the south side of 89 as you are going through West Sedona heading toward Cresent Moon Park. (it will be on your left) I suggest eating there afterward, and then it would make for a good meeting spot also.
Or, for a meeting spot, after you turn on to the road that takes you to Cresent Moon, you pass a school a short ways in. That could make a good meeting point. (I believe it will be on your right).
Also note: Sunset is 7:15pm Saturday, so if you get there at 4pm you'll have 3 hours to kill.

Ok, I have scouted the area out for parking and meeting places for the Sedona saturday sunset shoot.
1. McDonalds at Rodeo Road and Hwy 89A in the shopping center with a Safeway market. Plenty of parking and can get soft drinks. (About 15 minutes from Crescent Moon Ranch Park) It should be safe for cars left behind. I will be at McDonalds between 4:00 to 4:15 then head over to the park. I will be wearing light tan shirt, light green jacket and greying hair. I plan on making a stop on Upper Red Rock Loop before the Chavez Ranch turn, because there is a great panarama view that should look great in the late afternoon.
2. At the corner of Upper Red Rock Loop Rd and Chavez Ranch Rd there is enough off road parking for about 10 cars. (About 3 minutes from Crescent Moon Ranch Park)
3. Crescent Moon Ranch Park ($7.00 per car). Park at the extreme end and take the trail even further out to the Red Rock Crossing site. As the path leads away from the lawn area don't take the trail to the river that you first see. The trees are in the way there. You want to take the left fork of the trail and go down about 1/4 mile and it will open up with large slabs of red rock that you can walk out on and shoot from.
Mirdonamy - Louddog is correct actual sunset is after 7pm so you might want to adjust your 3 hour time slot. Also I suggest not using Lower Red Rock Loop as you will need to go on dirt roads to get to the Chavez Ranch turn.
Looking forward to meeting whoever can make it.

Barbara, I'm finding now that I won't be there as early as I thought.
Maybe closer to 3p.m. ??Hopefully I can spot you on the street. Your the one with all the camera gear right? :) Maybe I'll pin a DPC sign to my back. If we don't find you we'll be at Micky 'd's' at 4PM.
Hey go shopping! or window shopping. Also there are some good hiking trails close by or you could take a drive down to Oak Creek and you'll find a nice park and some areas to take photos. [you do have to pay to enter the park, not sure of the cost] Look for free parking along the creek but watch the traffic.
See all tomorrow at McDonalds 4pm.
