I was just wondering if there was anyone in the Monterey area that would like to help me out. My youngest son is getting married this weekend, we're flying out short notice to be there. I am going to take pics, but was wondering if a DPCr would like some wedding experience without any strings attached. I can't afford to pay, but the experience is there to be gotten without any expectations.

The wedding is at 4 pm on Sat, 7 May 2005.

You may want to PM MontereyKiddo see if he is up for it...he's got some cool stuff in his portfolio from that area.

Thanks, I'll PM him. Did I mention that he is a Marine and will be in his dress uniform!

(This is also a bump for the west coast)

Gee I wonder how long you knew about the wedding?

They have been engaged for about two months, the date was set about 1 1/2 weeks ago, the idea popped into my head about 9:15 this morning.

It's set and I want to publicly thank Chris for the assistance before the wedding. Photos to be posted later. Never thought I'd meet a group of folks that are willing to help each other, besides teaching and nurturing photography.

Thank you for the lead to Chris!

Ken.

You should've organized a gtg for Monterey and then maybe a lot of the Bay Area folks would showup. I would've shown up to do it for free, just to do portrait shooting. People is something I never shoot :(

Unfortunately weekends are tough without a bigger notice. Monterey is definitely a great place as a backdrop for a wedding and photos.

NP...I like watching Chris' shots as I myself was brought up in Santa Cruz (aptos - ran off and joined the Marines and never made it back to the Cruz) but have Peeps (in-laws) living in Carmel Valley so I make it there at least once a year.

I believe He'll do you right.

I wish they would have given us a little more time, but alas not! If you can break away for Sat morning we have a beach shoot planned with casual clothes and wedding clothes. If you are interested let me know and I can give you further details. Or contact Chris and he can pass it on!

I've talked to him on the phone and we had some good conversation. I'm going to learn from him on the portrait side of pics. I hope I have something to leave with him.

You're going trust Chris with this???? Tsk tsk tsk. I know Chris personally and I know for a fact that Chris doesn't know a camera from a doorknob. Just Kidding...Have fun Chris, and wedding people.

"Pedxer" was my model for the Cemetary challenge. He's the kid flying over the gravestone! Thanks Grant. :)

Just got back this afternoon and what a trip. Met up with Montereykiddo (Chris) and I had a blast. OKC to Monterey to OKC, 48 hours, 6 hours sleep. I want to thank Chris again. I finally got to go through most of the 1400 pictures we took in about 12 hours. Chris did an awesome job and it was a lifesaver for me. Didn't have time to do all I wanted to do, the schedule changed on the fly, and once again Chris was flexible with it.

Will post some pics later.

Thanks again Chris!

Thanks Ken for letting me shoot your sons wedding. To be honest I was pretty nervous when I showed up and Ken introduced me to people as "The Photographer"! I had never shot a wedding before let alone anything near that caliber. I feel like it was a great learning experience. About 15 minutes before the ceremony, Ken gave me his 500 Flash from his Cannon. I had no idea what I was doing, because I've never used a big ol' flash on my camera before. Needless to say I tried to adjust as quickly as possible so I could get comfortable before the wedding. Thanks again Ken, I appreciate the tips and hospitality your family and friends showed me. Here are a few of my favorites that I took....still haven't had time to go through all of them! Most of these just have small adjustments like auto color, USM, and NI. On a couple of the shots I used a soft focus filter which was a new thing for me. It was a blast!

Chris

Chris, you picked some good ones. There's plenty more. Here are some of the first ones of mine with just a quick auto levels and USM.

(add)Thought I'd throw a couple of you shooting so everyone could see you in action

Ken

This has to be one of the most ironic images I've seen. LOL.

"Maybe I'll use the $1500 SLR...no, it might get scratched or worse, not potentially run over by a bridesmaid"
Sets $1500 camera down on pavement in middle of the road
"Maybe I'll sport the Point and Shoot around my neck...nah, it's got too much versatility and is bound not to look candid enough"
Picks up $6 cardboard disposable camera
"Perfect. Snap! Zipzipzipzipzipzip. Snap!...."

I would like to add that the Nikon on the ground is very tough. He set it down and then the car left the tire marks.

This is one of the last pictures where everyone was in the photo. A few people handed him the cameras and asked please. I kept mine in the group to get this photo.
