Oh boy, saw both. I found the F2.8, to be heavier and easier to control due to its weight. I have to learn to press the button and not crush the camera.

I am also buying a 20D tomorrow. Friday.

I'm running a 20D and 70-200mmm IS (loving it)

I would suggest (seeing as you're dumping that much $$$ already) getting a Manfrotto / Bogen monopod with the "extra-wide" mount. This can give you something to rest it on while out hiking etc, at stabilization (which combined with the IS should get you closer to tri-pod levels) and as they compact down to a narrow tube about 20" long.
