I just looked it up and came up with 13 miles (as the crow flies).
One postcode is Frankfurt am Main, the other is Rodgau.

So I went to mapquest and typed just the zip codes and got 17 miles. hmmm.

Considering that I gave you 13 miles as the crow flies, 17 miles road distance makes a lot of sense, don't you think?

I am sorry to disappoint you, but I know nothing about about Lord of the Rings. "As the crow flies" is just a saying..... and a very very OLD one at that.

Ah sorry, Gandalf says it all the time in the books...that was what I immediately thought of.
