Sunday, as i was walking with some friends, i stumbled upon a group of students on strike, doing loud noise. So i decided to snap a few pics. Got really close and actually god "massed" as the police was pushing a very 'jolly' fellow who though he was the all mighty in 'pushing' the riot police away... people will say poor him, but i assure you all, he deserves it plenty. The blurry pic with the orange haze is the 'cloud' of masse. (not sure how to pronounce that word...but hell).

Here are a few pics.

What were they protesting?

This picture:

made me smile. The police look pretty jolly for advancing on a bunch of demonstrators. No raging grannies?

Well basically, the students are angry (with reason) because the cost of studies in Canada, especially in Quebec i suppose(?!) is getting higher and higher, and a graduate from a general formation of 5 years (college, university) will have debts of around 20,000$ minimum, and that's unacceptable because most jobs they will cary for the following 5 years will get them around 35,000$/year. So if they want to start a familly and follow up on the normal lives of average citizenship, they will take about 10 years to repay that debt. That's before transportation fees, living fees...

So they make strikes, manifestations and stuff. I think the strikes and manifs are wrong as their message is not heard or understood by the 'old' generation anyways, but there really is a problem with the cost of studings and living in Quebec.

So there you have it. Face hurt for about 3 hours after the "orange cloud" incident, thank god for Oakley ;)

In the US one year of Ivy league schooling costs more than that. It's insane. If I had it all to do over again, I would never have gone to university. I would have used the tuition to learn automechanics on my own and become a mechanic. Every time something goes wrong on my car it costs $500 minimum, no matter how seemingly insignificant. I think being a mechanic would be very satisfying too, plus great for starting a hobby. I've always wanted to pimp my ride, but am only knowledgable enough to add a bumper sticker.

I highly recommend you spend some time with BradP discussing exactly WHY auto mechanics cost so much but still have greasy fingernails and bad attitudes... I promise you, the guy who actually touches your car is the recipient of less than 20% of what the repair costs, and he's probably got ongoing educational costs that HE is responsible for, as well.

There just isn't a free lunch. The guys in white collars still take home more money than the blue guys, but they have college debts, etc...
