I originally voted yes to the poll about a buy, sell, trade section being added to the forum, but I've changed my mind. I think the powers that be on this site should spend their time finishing what we already have started. For example, the search photos feature of the site is "coming soon". The user rating for the different cameras is "coming soon". Why don't we get what we have completely up and running before adding new features to the site. Of course this is just my two cents, but I was wondering what others thought. |

Adding a new section to the forum only takes 2 seconds though.

I'm more concerned with working out the legal ramifications/paperwork involved ... will take more than 2 seconds. |

I didn't realise it was that easy (I'm pretty much a web site idiot!). Any ideas as to how long it will be until some of the other stuff on the site is working? The search photos feature would really be nice and the user rating could be invaluable when upgrading equipment. |

"legal ramifications/paperwork involved"
[[[There are none, a simple STICKY post that states dpchallenge is in no way related to any trades or transactions, nor does it have any role in the trade or negotiation. Trade at you own risk.]]]
It's no different than Starbucks having a corkboard with local business cards stuck to it. If you call a landscaper and he screws you over. That's between you and the landscaper. Starbucks has no real role in the matter. |

Hmmm - there might be some legal issues - I am sure that you could provide for them in the website terms and conditions, but then I have noticed that there are some American members and that can mean serious issues regardless...! |

uh...sure -- racist. Just because America's problems are strung out for the whole world to see and there are a good amount of idiots here doesn't mean that just because there is American members, that there's going to be problems.
I know you were saying that in a joking manner, but it's still rather offensive to be honest.

Sorry - should have explained myself. Was not joking, and was not being racist as regards US citizens and idiots. Was a reference to the US being the most litigious jurisdiction in the world: the risk of being sued can be a serious problem for website owners with a lot of regular US visitors.
If a person were to buy second hand kit through this website and was ripped off, there would be a legal issue. Lots of lawyers (from all jurisdictions) would have the market place website on their potential target list of where to make a recovery for the victim. However, in my experience, US citizens are more likely than others to go to a lawyer, the lawyer is likely to make threats (creating a time burden when dealing with these). It is significantly more likely that a US lawyer will actually go through with suing the website. So, for example, a website with a large US user base will often have higher insurance costs than one without.
As well as some appropriate wording in the user terms, the website would have to be quite careful about how it set up such a service. For example, it would have to distance scores received by a seller in respect of his photos and any indication of trustewrthiness as a seller (aka Ebay ratings): any confusion on the part of the buyer, and they could accuse DPC as having appeared to have warranted the good standing of the seller. All this can be overcome with care and consideration and an insurance policy, but these can be expensive: if you are being careful, it is not quite an "it's just a message board" approach. There is something to be said for operating the sale through, say, Ebay with a listing referral section on DPC, which will increase the chance that Ebay will take the flak (and they do!).
Apologies if I caused offence - will make my allusions more obvious in the future.

I am an American.
I have relatives that live on the Rez, (Rosebud Rez, SD,USA).
At one time we as a nation, Lakota Nation, would of loved to have conquered the whites in an all out battle to regain our land back that the anglo had taken away. I.E., The little big horn, the taking of Alcatraz, and Wounded Knee 2.
Today, our goals are more sinister, and working to plan. Instead of litigation, or blood over land, and broken treaties, we are going after the wallet via gambling. The whites are weak, and gambling is a vice we can take advantage of.
Our brothers from across the boarder( NOT Canada ) are hard at work in infiltrating the USA, and taking charge of the jobs that the anglos don't want giving us a foot hold on the vegitable picking, lawn maintanence, and house keeping trades. When these trades are fully in control of all my brothers, next will be the government. Especially the B.I.A. (Bossing Indians Around, or what the anglos may have you beleive really stands for Bureau of Indian Affairs), then the presidency.
Between the gambling, the trades mentioned, and the government, we will gain back our lands.
I am an American, and the white people that go straight into litigation are purley working into our grand scheme of things, in the end, to go broke. While our nation, the Indian Nation of America thrives.
We will take over the USA first, then Mexico, Central and South America, then.........Canada.
Look out England, your not as far as you think. Our canoes can be sea ready before you know it.
All my heros have always killed cowboys.

I had never previously understood the relationship between the rising tide of litigation and race war: thanks for enlightening me!
Though is your penultimate sentence a threat? If so, we took your lands once, we can jolly well do it again ; )

Oh please, swinging_johnson, you're kidding, right? Completely, 100% uncalled for. I'm not going to even try do defend the 'whites' here -- but I will tell you, that you are outright, blatently a racist, and wrong -- you should be banned from the site.

No, I don't have a sense of humor on that subject. I don't know you from a whole in the wall. All I know of you, is what I just read -- I have no prior interaction with you or know what color you are or what you believe. I just figure you're pretty confused and think you're better than us 'whites'. What do you expect, it's not like I can see your facial expression while I'm reading what you type.

what does penultimate mean, and your last sentence should be on a t-shirt.

Penultimate, from latin "paene ultima" (spelling?) = "next to last", literally "almost last", just like "peninsula" is "almost an island".
