I’ve been using Gallery but I recently found MiniGal browsing someone’s gallery here. I’m interested in user functionality, ease and degree of customization possible, managing images, comments, ratings, resizing, and even slideshows. Both Gallery and MiniGal provide the functionality, while I prefer the simplicity of MiniGal (I’m still experimenting with it) as far as designing it to look like the rest of the website and also have functionality. Gallery, on the other hand, is very powerful, but somewhat more complicated. In my case, I don’t know how to write PHP but I have no problem digging into the code to alter the layout. I’m also interested in free solutions; both of the above are. What about Flash? I once built my own gallery in Flash but it still saved every image onto the viewer’s hard drive (so it prevented right-clicking, but not prevent saving) and it wasn’t powerful enough to allow me to update a gallery without uploading some new list manually (mine used XML). The alternative was making a Flash movie that was several megabytes that contained the whole gallery—no good! What do you guys use and why?

Just for display - Simpleviewer and JAlbum are the best. Not sure about ratings and comment stuff...
