Is there a way to set guides that divide a shot up into thirds but that, when resized or cropped, will maintain the correct position? Itried making an action for it, but since the determining factor is the shot resolution, an action appears to be useless since it can't "auto-check" to make sure it is still dividing the image into thirds. Can any one help? |

Nevermind. I figured it out finally. Let me know if you want to learn how I did it. |

You could try using your eyes. They're a better judge of composition than arbitrary lines anyway... (wink)

Exactly! I think the rule of thirds would be more correctly titled, "the compositional suggestion that placing major elements of your art one third of the total length of one side of the artwork or another from that side of the artwork or on a intersection of opposing lines drawn one third of the length of one side of the artwork or another may or may not improve the composition as a whole" but that is kinda wordy for us impatient Americans...

Isn't that the rule of whoever asks for seconds first gets more to eat?

Ha! It works! That's really sweet that when it says "Position: 0px" you can throw in a "%" and it changes what units it uses to measure. Seems to me that it could have been made a little better so that it was more clear one could do that. 'Course, there's something to be said for experimenting...
Well. That's the straight forward way. My way? My action's command's went as follows:
Create new layer
Switch color to Blue (color is arbitrary)
Fill layer with blue
Select all
Resize selection area to 33.33333%
Contract selection by 2 px
Delete
Select inverse
Contract selection by 4 px
Delete
Yeah, much better the other way, but I'm still proud of myself for figuring out my own new way. Individuality is among my highest valued characteristics--even if it is achieved at the expense of inefficiency. Long live the individual!
Thanks for the tip, David! |
