I've been using digital cameras regularly for several years now, and I had never seen a CF card fail until I got a 350D. Now all of a sudden, they're dropping like flies. First my 2Gb Lexar card died, and I haven't been able to reformat it at all. A few days later, a Transcend 512Mb card gave me CF errors, but I was able to reformat it with my older Rebel 300D. Today, another Transcend card bit the dust. I can format and use it in the 300D, but the 350D won't touch it. I've only had this camera for two weeks. I've used all of these cards for months or years without a problem, and a Google search didn't turn up any related issues with the 350D. Has anybody else experienced or heard of this?

Looks like the camera has problem with card reader power, or you need to reformat yours card to FAT32.

All cards were formatted in the 350D itself, and I tried a fresh battery, too. Once they "fail," the cards won't mount with an external CF reader either. |

So external card reader didn’t recognize this card or they show like unrecognizable and unreadable card on Windows

I use Macs, but on multiple computers with different card readers, nothing happens. It's as if I didn't insert anything. If I put the card in the 350D, I get a CF Error message and/or the camera will shut down. |

The fact that you can reformat with a 300D says the card is being corrupted. I suspect the camera, especially if you an successfully use it in the 300D, but it won't work in the 350D.

That would be my thought, too, BUT I took about 3,000 pictures with the Transcend cards in Italy without a hitch. If the camera were corrupting the cards, then I'd expect that problem to appear during this period of heavy use. |

Hi Shannon,
Did you upgrade your OS to Tiger yet? I don't know if that would have anything to do with this sudden card corruption, but I was just wondering if anything else about your workflow has changed besides the new camera.
BTW, nice new icon. :-)

Not yet. Tiger's on order, but my SuperDrive died yesterday (my lucky week), so I couldn't install it at the moment anyway. Only the camera has changed. |

Take one of the cards that can be read in the 300D and go to a camera shop and try them in a different 350D. If they work, youknow where the problem lies.

Good idea! I can try it in the 20D, which might be indication enough.
