That's an excellent bird shot, it's position of sorta looking over it's shouder at the camera adds a lot; I can't find anything major wrong with it so I'm going to pick nits -- there are some blue thingies in the shot that add a little variety to the colors but the one right at his tail feathers is a bit distracting so I'd clone it to be green, at least at the end nearest the feathers; and there is a little bit of food stuck to it's beak, that could probably be cleaned up.
What lens are you using for your birds shots? And what exposure settings? They seem to have very nice depth of field to them.

I used the canon 100-400 at f9 1/200 sec iso 200.

Why not add lens information to the photo using the new DPC lens database? :)

Your beautiful bird is a House Finch (Carpodicus mexicanus, commonly mistaken for Purple and Cassin's finches.
