I have never considered myself a birder but it would be cool to get the first modern day photo of one of these guys.

There has been a great deal of buzz on this on our local Audubon email list - very exciting!

I am not really a birder but it is always good news to find out we have not killed off something after all...

Just two weeks ago, I was staring at a map of the Ivory Bill's former range and wondering if a few might still be hiding in some Arkansas forest. How funny that this should surface now! Sadly, I'm sure that thousands of people will now descend on that forest to look for the poor bird. OK, who's up for a DPC GTG in Arkansas? ;-)

It's been all over NPR as well ... there is someone with video, but I guess no good still photos.

They have 4 seconds of clear video. "Yall" come on down and we will have a dpc outing.

Your right that lots of people are going to be there but I'm beting they show up unprepared. These areas are real swamps, and soon as it warms up a bit more(if not already) they will be complete with alagators and everything.

Did I mention the "blue bird" size mosquitos?

I noticed that "warms" is an anagram for "swarm"

Absolutely amazing! 60 years no sightings, then this. First person that gets a high-quality photo is gonna be famous.

Saw the video, looks like bigfoot to me.

I hope there are others and not just a male..their territory has been really encroached upon by human sprawl.

If you knew how much wetlands we have lost in Arkansas alone you would be shocked. Wetlands are the filters for the earth. Finding this bird will boost our ability to preserve more land.

As far as hoping there are females- heck there has to be. They are harder to recognize from another bird. The males would be easy. I have seen lots of the other birds and its hard to imagaine this being even bigger bird. 22" tall If you hear one in the woods I bet it sounds like a jack hammer.

The red-bellied woodpecker that was pounding on my metal birdfeeeder this morning certainly did. I think he was amused at finding an amplifier.
