This photo was taken in time, but unfortunately I didn't have time to process it and submit it on time. Looking at the rest of the entries, I think it would have been a 4-5 range photo.

While you are at it (scoring the actual challenge) I am asking for a comment or two - on how do you think it would rate and what do you think about it. Title would have been STOP!

I'd have to give it a four for not meeting the challenge. :-(

The truck is more of a subject than the sign, and the only reason I know the sign is the subject is from the title. Sorry :-(

I may be wrong but basic editing rules apply. I do not believe you can do what you did to change the photo to b/w and not the sign.
This may have been disqualified.

Selective desaturation is legal in Basic, just has to be applied to the entire photo.

-edit: you'll notice the truck taillights are still red.

I agree, when I first opened it, the car was the main object in my eyes.

Correct observation, Strikeslip. I did desaturate separate color channels within basic edits. And yes, the second main reason (other than not having time) for not submitting this one is that SUV down there. Normally nobody parks there, and someone happened to be there that evening.

I thought SELECTIVE anything was not legal in basic...

and I'm very sorry but I would have given you a 3 in the challenge

Me too, I guess I need to reread basic. Because of the car I too would have given it a 3.

Roseann,

the term "selective" relates to pixels, not levels/colors. If you take term "selective" to mean anything other than pixels, then the brightness adjustments, levels, curves etc. would have been illegal.

As long as you do not make a selection via some of the selection tools (or even a gradient tool as it selects which part of the image is acted upon), any adjustment of color, hue, saturation, level etc. is considered basic editing.

Thank you for your comments.
