could you explain that i understand but then i dont but iam really intrested though sounds like you have a good point!

As a photographer, I'm often drawn toward something unexpected, and the unexpected tends to paint us a little stupid sometimes, at least for a spell. If I want to take pictures, I would try to fit in or, at least, look like I do.

But you could also say that I was a little cynical about human intelligence altogether. ;-/

your right and in my opinion the unexpected is usually what come out looking the best i will never forget that candid shot i seen on here of that cross with jesus on it in that junky yard if i remember correctly iam pretty sure that was unexpected

Bending down to take a picture of a goose, and then being attacked/chased by it... Moral: be careful when bending down so you don't get goosed. ;)

How about hiking to a remote waterfall in Hawaii with a Nikon film camera, finding a nice place for a portrait, looking through the viewfinder only to be dismayed by the remarkably fuzzy image. After 1 hour of fooling with it, the diopter was cranked to one end...DOH!

Selected Interval instead of delay timer once, unfortunatley the delay was set at 1s and the shutter at 15s as i was taking night shots, took about 3 mins to catch it at exactly the right moment between shutter open, saving the image and and taking another, for me to stop it, was getting a bit worried i would end up having to wait for the card to fill up some 150 shots later or the battery to run out.

Next time that happens, just tell them that is your camera "re-setting itself."

Bending down to take a spring flower shot and sticking you butt right on a little cactus really hurts.

Rattlesnakes do not like to be posed.

Well it's not so much the stupidest thing ever - but I seem to have this issue - that whenever I've been out taking night shots - I leave the camera set on shutter priority, with a thirty second exposure setting - really great the next day when you go to take a snapshot of the family the day after and don't realise til 6 or 7 seconds later that the shutter is still open.

Now kids hold still. It'll be over in 30sec.

Oh yeah, I forgot this one, felt like a right idiot.
I was taking photos of a gig, I always use manual mode for this.
Well, after each shot, the aperture kept changing. I couldn't work out why for the life of me. It also happened in aperture and shutter modes when pointed at the same section of wall so the exposure should stay constant.
I took it home, and upgraded the firmware, still no improvement. I was in a right panic about having to send off my camera.
It was in bracketing mode.
Doh.

How about setting custom white balance for your dining room lighting, and then going out to shoot abandoned buildings at 7:00am the next morning and forgetting to reset the white balance. You get a nice shade of blue tinge to everything you shoot.

been there done that, except I was using real custom colors like orange and when I took the pic everyone was a real ugly tone. Then there was the first time I used remote flash and half way through the shoot the flash stopped and I couldn't figure out anything why...finally I realized the cable to the flash unit had come loose...looked like an idiot in front of the wedding party.

btw..I didn't say it but I heard women don't fart cause they never shut up long enough to build up the pressure.

For me, it has to be shooting without a CF card in the camera. To make things worse, it was during my son's daycare party or something along those lines... and I was checking histograms after the shots, all looked good...
Came to my car to review the photos and delete the bad ones - and realized that there is nothing to review.

It was fun explaining to my wife later what was I doing with the camera...

ps. I haven't changed the setting on my camera yet. Every time I turn it on, the painful memories return and I check the display... (which by the way says NO CF if the one isn't there!)

Why, whatever do you mean by that comment? I just don't think that I understand that at all. Do you really mean that? I wonder who said that originally, because I just don't think that I agree with that whatsoever. But, maybe. Perhaps I should go back and read it again.............lol
Good one.

Not really a photography theme, but hey, its bad enough....I went to the supermarket with my wife, as she was shooting up and down the aisles i stopped to browse through some photography magazines. After spending about ten minutes reading an article i turned to look for my wife, and saw she was in the queue...as i approached she didn't spot me, so i snuck up behind her and puckered up to kiss her...as my lips were just about to touch i realised it wasnt her!! Cue very embarassed lady, extremely mortified moi and wife hysterically laughing ten feet away....it took me a month to get over it!!

What I learned:

Three bungy cords will not necessarily hold your $400 tripod on the back of your motorcycle

Corollary:

A $400 tripod and head will not withstand being run over by a truck

When showing how great your camera is to someone on a sunny day and encouraging them to take a pic and see the results in the LCD, remember to put it on Auto first. Or at least reset the white balance and shutter speed from the near-dark backlit photo you were taking the night before.
