Well, today I was supposed to work a half-day and go to Washington DC for a baseball game with blemt, mcrochip, and mcrochip's brother Dan.

At 7:35 I go to leave for work as usual -- and I'm parked in by a furniture delivery truck. I'm scheduled to be in work at 8:00, which as luck would have it is just about the time they move the truck. I don't get in to work until 8:15.

At 12:15, I left work, stopped at the bank and the gas station, and headed to the game. This would get me to the game about 1/2 hour before game time -- or it would have until a deer ran into my car on Interstate 83 in Maryland. I'm fine, but the hood latch failed and the hood flew open, shattering my windshield. the radiator and A/C compressor are damaged. Sadly, the deer didn't make it.

A call to the Maryland State Police and my insurance company, to my brother (who is a manager for Enterprise Rent-A-Car), a 30-minute wait for the police to show up, a wait for a tow truck, a tow to Baltimore and a pickup from Enterprise later, and I had a rental car. Of course it's 4:10, the game starts at 4:30 in DC, and I'm on the North side of Baltimore at rush hour.

Mercifully, traffic was not that bad. I was at New Carrolton and on the Metro by 5:00, and at the game shortly thereafter. Of course, I missed about 5 1/2 innings of the game I had driven down for in the first place. On my way to the game I called my boss and told him I need to take a half-day off tomorrow morning to recover from the half-day off I took this afternoon.

At this point Steve and Dan had to leave, Clara and I figured we'd stop back at her apartment to check on her cats and then grab dinner. the police have her street blocked off at both ends, and it turns out there was a fire in her building. It was about an hour until I could get in her building. No one was hurt, and the fire was not in her part of the building.

It's 10:30 PM, and I have yet to sit in the same place for an hour all day.

Yikes!
That's one of those days that you wonder why the heck you got out of bed anyhow.
Or, youknow it's bad when... you wish you were back at work.

Could'a been worse - you could've been the deer!

LOL, Exactly.

Glad to hear everyone (except the deer) is okay though. Did you keep the deer for the meat?

None from the accident scene. When I pulled to a stop my passenger door was too close to the guide rail to open. Getting in/out the driver side involved stepping into the traffic lane, which I figured it was best to avoid as much as possible.

Holy Cow!

Glad nobody got hurt. A very unusual set of circumstances indeed.

Your story remided me of this, and if you haven't heard it, be prepared.

Hey terry: it seems you hit the jack pot. We can all relate to some degree and hope everything falls back in place real soon.

Terry,
Your day sounds just horrible the way you tell it--and I really don't want to take away from that....but...it reminded me so much of a story I loved whn I was younger called "Fortunately, Unfortunately" that I just had to re-write your story in that style. I hope you don't mind my sharing it--I think, sometimes, it's all in how we look at things. =)

The Revised Bad Day Story

Fortunately, I had an invitation to go to a baseball game in DC with some DPC’rs.
Unfortunately, I had to take time off of work to go.
Fortunately, I have a great boss who let me take a half-day.
Unfortunately, when I left to go to work I found my car parked in by a delivery truck.
Fortunately, they moved the truck and I went to work.
Unfortunately, I was 15 minutes late.
Foturnately, my boss let me go at 12:15.
Unfortunately, my schedule was tight.
Fotunately, I got cash and gas and would still arrive ½ hour before game time.
Unfortunately, a deer collided with my car on the Interstate and smashed my car up before it died at the side of the road.
Fortunately, I had a cell phone and made a few calls.
Unfortunately, I was stranded by the side of the road with the corpse of the deer.
Fortunately, my brother works for a car rental agency.
Unfortunately, I had to wait for the police and a tow truck before I could get the rental.
Fortunately, I was alone with the dead deer for only 30 minutes before the cops came.
Unfortunately, by the time everything got straightened out there was only 20 minutes before the game and I was stuck on the far side of Baltimore during rush hour.
Fortunately, traffic wasn’t bad and fortunately, I made it to the public Metro in good time.
Unfortunately, I missed half the game.
Fortunately, I met up with my friends.
Unfortunately, two of them had to leave.
Fortunately, my other friend agreed to have dinner with me.
Unfortunately, on our way to dinner we saw her apartment building on fire!
Fortunately, it wasn’t a bad fire and fortunately, her cats were o.k. and fortunately, no one was hurt.
Unfortunately, my feet are sore and I haven’t had a moment's rest all day.
Fortunately, my boss is going to let me take another half-day off.
(That is fortunate, isn’t it?)

May your days be more fortunate than unfortunate!

My question is what did you do at work for the half day you were there NOT to sit in one place for and hour??? Oh yea sorry to hear about the car.

And the Nats lost. What a bummer of a day. I think you deserve a whole day off.

I had not nearly as much drama as Terry did and I still gave myself the rest of today off. It was a hectic afternoon/evening!

Firetruck!
