I have to apologize to a lot of people in the last challenge.
I voted at home on my flat panel monitor and commented on just about everyone I voted for. A lot of my comments though were about dull colors. Welllll after reviewing all the submissions today on my work CRT monitor I now see the colors in a different light...pun intended. Just about everyone that I mentioned was dull was in fact NOT dull.
Very sorry for that and will be trying to adjust my home monitor VERY soon.
p.s. This also explains the comments on my colors when I submit from home...dang it.

Exactly why everyone should calibrate their monitor frequently.

I used to have the same problem with my CRT at work - it made the BEST photo look dark and muddy. I have a flat panel now that I think is "normal". I have the reverse problem at home now; my new monitor at home makes even the worst photo look bright, crisp and appealing, even when it's not! I really need to view my own at work before posting them. lol |

OK, so how do you calibrate a CRT monitor (I'm using Xnadros). Is there a program designed for that or do you just fiddle with the controls? |

Color Vision has various flavors using the Spyder Calibration tool...this is the cheapest and works quite well ColorVision ColorPlus
The better versions let you adjust the gamma and other advanced settings...all will let you create a profile for your printer so that printed colors are close to what you see on the monitor. |

To me, there is a problem other than just clalibration, also. My old CRT at work could not be improved; it was just a lousy display. And my new one at home is a bright, 19" Sony glass-front flat panel that just gives a look of sharpness and clarity that is one step up regardless of calibration. Hope that makes sense - I don't have all the proper terminology, I am sure. |

Good thing you fixed it before the 'Late Night' challenge. ;} |

This is why I stopped marking photographs at work because my old CRT screen is so old & dark. Not that that stops me from looking at them at work of course.
