I just purchase the 70-200 f2.8 L after reading stellar reviews. I also purchased a Pro Master UV filter. I did a test of same images at same lengths and settings with a 70-300 f3.5-5.6 (no UV). The images where actually sharper with the 70-300. I was about to exchange the lens when I thought, maybe this filter is causing the problem. Removed it and pictures are now tack sharp.

Any one else experience something similar with Pro Master? I am going to try Hoya as it seems silly not to protect it if there is no image degradation. The Pro Master one cost $30.

I've had some anomolies which removing the filter solved. I'm also not crazy about how sloppy the glass fits in the ring. I have always had a pride and enjoyment in good solid tools, and the ProMaster filters really don't feel like the rest of my Nikon stuff.

If I bought another screw-on filter it would either be a BW, Hoya, or Nikon. I think my next filter is going to be more like a Singh-Ray though.

Hey Fritz, I'll give you a couple hundred if you (accidentally) leave your gear on your front porch and walk inside the house for a minute. Then just make a claim with your insurance that your gear was stolen and get all brand new stuff. Sound good? lol ;-)

Of course now you have to pay all of us off as well for silence in the matter. :)
