Did anyone from Europe get a chance to take a shot or two at this plane?

Rosay, co-pilot Claude Lelaie and four fellow crew members took no chances — donning parachutes for the first flight.
Yep, i'll be the first in line. NOT.

There is some free video showing the takeoff, it's one big honker!

They had hand rails installed so they could find their way to the door if they needed to jump also.
It's a big monster, very impressive engineering, but I don't know many people that want to get on a plane with 554 other people.

The Titanic was also a big monster, with very impressive engineering. |

Is this bigger than Boeing's legend coming out soon, the 787?

Much bigger, the 787 is a small plane. Similar in size to a 737. It's claim to fame is efficency, comfort and long range. Boeing is banking on the fact that people would rather take a small plane point to point and Airbus thinks people would rather take a large plane to a hub and get on a second plane to get to the destination.

Boeings largest commercial jet is of course the 747-400. Boeing began introducing new jets with the 757 and 767, both smaller than the 747 but more efficient. Boeing best commercial jet as of now is the 777. It is larger than any of Boeing’s commercial jets except the 747-any configuration. The Boeing 777’s are the most efficient commercial jet in the skies today. But I have to tip my hat to the European countries joint venture on the A380. It is a bold step that would of bankrupt a lot of companies mainly Airbus if it would not of been planed well. I have always been an airplane enthusiast. And watching that large jet take off was amazing. I wish airbus well and much safety with there new jet. It was like seeing the concord for the first time except this time it was size instead of speed.
I don’t think Boeing will try to out do the A380 in size even though I would like to see them try. Not because I want America to have the largest commercial jet. Because I would like to see what a larger jet would be like. I don’t know if you can get much larger than the A380.

It's actually not that much bigger then a C5. More power though. if it fails as a commercial jet it has good potential as a cargo plane.
Boeing is actually working on a 747 cargo variant to transport the fuselage of the 787. It will be kind of like the super guppy.

Airbus is offering a freight configuration as well.
I find it humorous that the Airbus site has a couple of VR views of the first class lounges, but nothing depicting how things will look from steerage. :)
And I think, in the event of a crash, I would prefer to be in the top deck, and not sandwiched in the middle. (I'm sure they engineered for this, but I don't believe it, not for a minute.) :p

"It can carry as many as 840 passengers on commercial flights." Wow.

Does it need airport mods? I know when teh 747 came out it was sooo much bigger than the other jets airports had to make changes in teh gates to accomodate it.
Just to load and unload 800+ people must require some airport mods.
