I just received my new Digital Rebel XT, which has a
feature to take b/w pictures. I am wondering if I should
ever use this feature? I can easily do post-processing to
convert the photo to b/w, sepia, etc. In the case of taking
a color picture, and converting it after, you get both
types, as compared to only b/w if taken with that setting.
Is there any reason to use the b/w setting on my camera,
instead of getting it through post-processing? Any ideas or
comments would be appreciated. |

I think the general concensus here is, as you say take em in colour and do the editing yourself, far more scope than letting the cam strip all that information in your shots. |

B&W photo's on your cf card will not be as big which means you can shoot a lot more in B&W. I have a 1 gig card and have never filled it yet.

Does the Rebel 300D have this setting? I have yet to find it. |

No, it doesn't. If it did, I'm not sure if I'd use it though. It seems kind of limiting. While lately, I've been on a big b&w kick, I still like to have control over converting it myself you know?

If you are shooting and you know you want b/w, shoot in raw/sm jpeg and turn on the b/w feature. You will be able to preview in b/w and still have raw color to convert.
