Before yesterday, whenever I would use the back button to go back to the DPC forums for example to the homepage, the homepage would update and threads would be colored as read. Starting late last night when I got home from work, when I hit the back button and go back to the home page it does not refresh, rather it pulls the whole page from the cache. I have to refresh the page myself or hit update to see new threads or if the threads that I've read have changed... Did my Firefox settings change or has there been a change in the coding of the site? My kid was on the 'puter yesterday but swears he didn't change anything but the hideous wallpaper he couldn't figure out how to put back... ;-)
In Netscape there is a setting to refresh a page once per session, when the page changes or always. I can not find that setting anywhere in Firefox. Does anyone know where that is?

DO you have the Advanced Preferences extension? I forget the exact name, but it's one of the most downloaded. It's in there under the browser preferences.
Edit: Extension is called Preferential

I have a copy of Firefox 1.0.3 (current Mac version). The "Reload" button is right there in the toolbar, next to the Forward and Back buttons. Command+R (try Control+R on a PC) is the shortcut for it.
When I do nothing, the (DPC Homepage) page updates itself.

I believe he wants Firefox to automatically load the newset version of the page, rather than using a cached version.

Ron,
You're going to have to drop a refresh on it for now.. we fixed the FireFox "back button" issue on Saturday or Sunday and so now in FireFox when you hit back, it doesn't hit our server again, so it can't update your icons. Until we can put some more effort into fixing both issues, you're stuck w/ a back&refresh. Or of course use IE6! :)

My computer at work seems to have the same issue, though it uses Internet Explorer. I just hit the "My Home" or "Home" links (depends if I'm at the top or bottom of a page) and it has the same effect as a back button that refreshes. |

Bugger!
I only found Firefox last week and have fallen in love with it. It leaves IE for dead as a browser (I thought a browser was just a browser until last week).
I was wondering why this morning the threads were behaving strangely :(
What a pain :(

I never expected BACK to refresh in Firfox or IE. I expect it to pull from the cache...perhaps i was the only one?
I always go back via the drop down menu on DPC - the HOME choice. I also have DPC set as my home page.
Weren't you all complaining last week that DPC was too slow? The make a change to fix that (fewer server hits) and now you're unhappy about that!
Some people's children! LOL

Naw, you'll probably find it is the usual case with any community this large ...... different people have different issues. One mob like it the way it is etc, gets changed as another mob hated something and they shut up, initial mob pipe up as they now have an issue *laugh*
And yes, some people's children!!! Personally, I blame the parents ;)

IE6 stopped refreshing with the back button a month or so ago on my system -- it seems firefox is playing catch-up. :D
Was much more convienent when it did.

I can't remember the last time I used the 'back' button, but I'm a fiend for tabbed browsing and follow 99% of all links with the middle button :)

And that is exactly what sold me on Firefox, it is awesome! I looked at it reluctantly when a friend "forced me to" as to me a browser is just a browser ... but tabbed browsing, wow!
Also check out the "Linky" extnesion if you have not loaded it. Open all links, including image links, on a page in new tabs, with the ability to deselect ones you don;t want .......... yes please :) I now vote by opening 50 images at a time, waiting for them to load, and then can vote image by image without needing to wait constantly for a reload :)

I stopped using firefox because each time I'd hit Back to go back to the main page on forums, it doesn't remember the location I was at on the page (it doesn't automatically scroll down to where I was) and IE does...I think that's REALLY anoying. |

Report it to the Mozilla team and there is a good chance they will fix it in the next update release. Report something like that to Microsoft, and it goes into their SPAM mail bin.

I'm using Firefox 1.0.3 on both Windows 2000 and XP and it certainly does not behave that way for me. It behaves, wrt the back button, precisely the same way as I.E., including the auto scroll down to where I was etc.
Was it an earlier version of Firefox maybe?

Not sure...I guess it's mozilla 1.0 -- maybe I'll update it. |

If you liked it other than that back button issue then it might be worth looking at again then. Maybe it has been updated since you had the problem, or maybe it is to do with some windows setting and I got lucky :)

Now I am really confused! That is the ONLY thing I don't like about Firefox and I am running the latest version. I would love to know why yours is running differently.

Well I just updated to the latest version and it still doesn't work for me either. Maybe it's some window's thing or something...but it works for IE .. and it's just annoying enough not to use it over ie.
