So I'm finally getting my own D70. So far, I've been using my dad's, although I did buy 2 lenses and 2 flashes for it in the last year. Anyway, I need about 1 or 2 GB of storage, as I'll be travelling Europe and taking RAW pictures throughout my trip. I'll have my laptop, so 1GB should actually be enough. The question is,
What kind of card should I get if I want to optimize on writing speed, without spending extra money on a card which is faster than the D70 can handle, or special like the Sandisk Extreme cards? Also, any idea where I could get one for cheap? Preferably within Canada. |

You can't go wrong with the Sandisk ultra II. Here is Rob Galbraith'd test database for read and write speed, specific to the D70. Notice that you would gain nothing at all in write speed by going with the "extreme" cards.
The only difference you MIGHT see is in transfering from the card to the 'pooter, and even then, only if you have the very fastest reader.

I use Ultra II's (I have 2 512's). If by any chance you are in Switzerland (Basel) on your travels it would be an honour to buy you a beer :)

Thanks for the info everyone.
As for Basel, I got offered a job in both Basel and Krakow, Poland, for the summer. I choose Krakow, being polish and having a lot of contacts there. But if I do swing by Basel during my travels in August, I'll for sure take you up on that offer. Thanks. :)

I use Ultra II's. I have three 1 GB and 1 512MB cards. Shooting RAW on a recent trip that gave me well over 600 shots, about 160-180 RAW per GB. If you shoot the highest level jpg then you would get about 500 or more per GB. Hope that helps.
BTW - if you have a Costco near you they sell them at a good price.
