I have a question because I have seen where some people got DQed because they didn't have their information.

I know there is an EXIF file when I take pictures on my rebel. The only time I've looked at it is when I've opend it in the software that came with the camera. Is it automatically uploaded along with my pictures? Does it have a name with a particular extension?

My other question is when someone needs to list their editing steps in PS or PSE. Is this automatically in a file when you do a save as? Would I need need to save the edited version as a .psd AND a .jpg? Meaning the .psd would have that editing information stored with it? Or do I need to physically write down all my steps...because frankly....I have no idea the 'exact' steps I do.

Thanks Guys!

The idea is to keep track of the steps used when you edit. You don't have to go into minute detail just provide enough information so the SC could repeat what you did to verify your photo if necessary.

For example:
levels - shadows: 23 highlights: 241 or autolevels if that's what you did

This information is readily available when you are actually performing the task.

Aside from that Photoshop CS does track changes in a file (when it is set up in the preferences). As for previous versions I don't know.

Hi

Q1:I know there is an EXIF file when I take pictures on my rebel. The only time I've looked at it is when I've opened it in the software that came with the camera. Is it automatically uploaded along with my pictures? Does it have a name with a particular extension?

I never work with my original file, I make a copy. This will save your EXIF data if you have to send your original.

Q2:My other question is when someone needs to list their editing steps in PS or PSE. Is this automatically in a file when you do a save as? Would I need need to save the edited version as a .psd AND a .jpg? Meaning the .psd would have that editing information stored with it? Or do I need to physically write down all my steps...because frankly....I have no idea the 'exact' steps I do.

In Photoshop you have a history palette. It's under windows make sure it's clicked and it will bring up the history window. When you get through with your editing before exiting PS you can go to the history palette and see the steps you did in order. Then you can write them down.

Hope this helps.

NOTE: I would always save my edited file to .psd so you can go back and edit more if you wish and see your history. Then when you resize to 640X use 'save as web' [jpg] @150k
